Rate fears and chip selloff drag the DAX lower

Interest Rate Fear and Chip Sell-Off: DAX Slips Significantly Below 100-Day Moving Average!

The delicate recovery rally of the German benchmark index has come to an abrupt halt. With a clear discount of 1.4 percent, the DAX closed at 25,104 points, quickly falling back below the important 100-day moving average. A global yield shock, fueled by persistently high oil prices and rampant inflation concerns, massively depressed prices even before the release of the US Federal Reserve minutes. The technology sector was hit particularly hard: following drastic downgrades by several major banks, semiconductor stocks experienced a veritable sell-off on the trading floor. Infineon plummeted by 5.8 percent, while Wall Street also shifted into reverse following its recent record highs.

Flight to Defensives: Yield Shock Brutally Chokes Off the Recovery

In light of escalating interest rate fears, investors fled en masse into defensive safe havens. While classic crisis beneficiaries such as telecommunications, healthcare, and food stocks led the winner lists—Deutsche Telekom gained 2.2 percent against the market trend—even gold and Bitcoin came under severe pressure. After the Xetra close, the Federal Reserve's minutes revealed the harsh monetary policy reality: the majority of central bankers consider another interest rate hike likely by the end of the year. While a rate move in October remains debated, the committee is preparing for sustained tensions in the bond market. Active intervention is therefore only to be expected if monetary policy transmission is seriously endangered.

ECB Minutes and Samsung Earnings: Will the 200-Day Line Withstand the Interest Rate Pressure?

For today, Thursday, the focus shifts to European monetary policy when the ECB publishes the minutes of its September meeting at noon. The macro day will be flanked by US initial jobless claims, which serve as a critical counter-check to the recently weak US labor market report. At the corporate level, the preliminary quarterly figures from Samsung Electronics take absolute center stage, acting as a global sentiment barometer that will determine a potential continuation of the chip weakness. From a technical chart perspective, the benchmark index is approaching the absolute danger zone: if the DAX sustainably falls below the 200-day moving average at around 24,830 points, the recent recovery scenario is definitively obsolete. The core question is: Can the central bank signals stabilize the market, or will the interest rate pressure finally tear down the most important support level?
